The Summit at Lakestone: Construction Milestone Update
The Summit at Lakestone is taking shape — and the progress speaks for itself.
Over the past several months, our project team has achieved a series of significant construction milestones, bringing this extraordinary neighbourhood one step closer to welcoming its first homeowners. Here’s a look at what’s been accomplished and what’s on the horizon.
Transforming the Terrain
Beginning in August 2024, our primary contractor, Wiltech, undertook the complex task of preparing more than 15 hectares of steep, high-elevation terrain for 57 generously sized homesites. The work was anything but straightforward. Variable rock conditions required 11 months of controlled blasting, and engineered retaining walls — some reaching up to 10.3 metres in height, among the tallest in the community — were constructed to establish stable, buildable ground. A 2-kilometre emergency access road was also carved into the mountainside, a critical piece of infrastructure completed with careful precision under challenging site conditions.
With this foundational work now complete, the overall form and character of the neighbourhood is clearly emerging.
Underground Infrastructure: The Backbone of the Community
In October, Matcon commenced deep servicing — one of the most technically demanding phases of the entire project. Working through steep and complex terrain, crews installed the full network of underground infrastructure, including sanitary, water, and stormwater systems. This required precise grading and rock trenching, carefully integrated with the overall site design.
That work is now complete, establishing the essential foundation upon which future homes will be built.
A Major Engineering Achievement
In parallel, Cummings Construction delivered key vertical infrastructure: the structural components of a new water booster station and a nearly 4-million-litre reservoir are now complete. These systems represent a meaningful engineering achievement — not only for The Summit, but for the broader community. The new infrastructure will provide the District of Lake Country with enhanced reliability and redundancy through connections to both the Sewell Water system and Okanagan Lake supply.
Final Stages: Activity on Multiple Fronts
As the project transitions into its final stages, momentum is building across the site. Crews are now installing telecom, electrical, and gas services, while roadways are being prepared for asphalt and municipal infrastructure systems are being integrated.
Cabin Forest Management has also completed wildfire mitigation work across approximately 5 hectares of new park and open space — a thoughtful commitment to both community safety and long-term environmental stewardship. Significant progress has been made on the trail network as well, further connecting residents to the stunning natural landscape that defines life at Lakestone.
Beacon Park Pavilion: Now Under Construction
Construction of the Beacon Park Pavilion is officially underway, with park landscaping set to begin in the coming months. This gathering space will become a natural centrepiece of the neighbourhood — a place to connect with neighbours and the outdoors alike.
Despite the demands of working through the winter season, the coordinated efforts of our project team have positioned The Summit ahead of schedule, with completion now anticipated earlier than originally projected.
