Continued Support for Forest & Backcountry Cleanup Efforts

Macdonald Communities Limited (MLP), the Developer of the Lakestone project in Lake Country, are once again thrilled to be supporting the Okanagan Forest Task Force in their effort to clean up and protect the local backcountry. Marc Leger, Community Director at Lakestone, presented a $10,000 donation to OFTF founder Kane Blake on behalf of company COO John Macdonald and the entire team at MLP.

“It’s such a great cause and to be able to see the immediate and very gratifying results of one of Kane’s big cleanup projects is awesome. His group posts before and after videos of the cleanups on their website so we can all observe the scale of the dumping and the incredible energy it takes to clean up these huge messes made by very irresponsible people”, says Leger.

The Okanagan Forest Task Force was formed in August 2016 by a group of outdoor enthusiasts who were concerned over the growing epidemic of illegal dumping in our forests, recreational areas and along natural waterways. Last year, OFTF hit the milestone of 500,000 pounds of garbage collected from illegal dump sites in and around the valley.

Leger adds that “Kane’s team do more than pick up garbage in the bush. They put out abandoned campfires, they dive in the lakes and rivers to remove underwater junk, they report their findings to BC Conservation Service to locate the bad guys and they spend countless hours educating the public on responsible backcountry behaviours”.
